For my spring project, I will be exploring sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch as a way to engage the invisible elements of memory, emotion, and human spirit.
Last semester began with consideration for the two dimensional image, and developed into the expression of a three dimensional experience. I will be continuing in the vein of installation work. I feel drawn toward connecting with the deeper elements that animate us (memory, emotion, and spirit), while simultaneously disconnecting from the nervous chatter that infiltrates the modern world.
Although it might seem as if it had been ripped from a greeting card, I respond to the Maya Angelou quote - "I've learned that people will forget what you said. . . but will never forget how you made them feel." Put another way, the California artist Robert Irwin talks about creating 'presence' with his work. This will be the focus of my semester.
